The Point - issue eight
The Point - a quiet read in a noisy world
An independent, self-published magazine journal set within the rich cultural history and natural beauty of what is now the North Devon World Surfing Reserve. Reflecting on what it means to be by the sea, from the purlieus of the Point to the coast of Croyde and out into the surfing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, one question I’m asked and I ask is:
So, What’s the Point?
In terms of use, what value has it as a magazine, as a commodity, as a product, as an object, as a thing? For me, as the maker, the use value is to convey an affinity with the sea, the surf and the coast, and in presenting the projects of the Point, I hope people begin to ask, what does he mean?
Before you go out and spend £300+ on your next wetsuit, spend £10.00 on the latest issue of the Point and read the article on wetsuit production. It is very thought provoking and an important piece of writing that every surfer should read and digest.
It will help you make an informed decision when you go to purchase you next wetsuit. It goes way beyond the usual reviews you see in the mainstream glossy brand led magazines. All wetsuits are not made equal. . . .
