The Point - a quiet read in a noisy world
An independent, self-published magazine journal set within the rich cultural history and natural beauty of what is now the North Devon World Surfing Reserve. Reflecting on what it means to be by the sea, from the purlieus of the Point to the coast of Croyde and out into the surfing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, one question I’m asked and I ask is:
What’s the Point?
It starts with rubbish, particularly plastic and it’s developed from documenting to discovering Sustainable Development. Where we go next, I’m unsure. That’s another issue.
Congratulations on your first issue, and congratulations again on creating something I've read cover to cover which doesn't happen often with any magazine. A thoroughly refreshing change from surf magazines that are far more aspiration than inspiration, and seemingly aimed at sub-thirty folk.
Great to read about surf heritage in the area and see these guys now. As an intermittent rather than intermediate surfer, and a far more accomplished photographer, I must say I loved the portraits and landscapes. Just shows you don't need people catching waves to convey an idyllic spot. If I could offer any criticism, I would say less quotes in essays, maybe pick one of two apt ones and be done.
I'll be looking out for further issues.
All the best,
Laurence - (unfortunately) London, and sometimes Scarborough
